Newsletter September 09, 2003-James Moore

Here's the Chairman of the Board - James Moore.

James raises tomatoes, Onions, Garlic, Potatoes, Lettuce, and sometimes, a little bit of Cane. Normally he is told what to do by his wife, Ursula or one of his two grown boys, Steve and Mike, other wise he is allowed to just run wild.

James does not get paid, however most of the irrigation in the gardens has been retrofitted to drip systems and we have a new Bar-B-Q Grill as a result of his leadership and labor. The Garden Club also enjoys a much improved organizational structure with a board of directors with a set of rules and guidelines for the current and future operation of the gardens.

He informs us that the operation of the gardens and the garden club's activity are do-it-yourself projects so each participant is responsible for his own assigned areas, however should one become temporally physically impaired, then some benevolent person will likely help out as any good neighbor would. It amounts to this - if you see something that you would like to see done in the gardens or in the garden club, all one has to do is talk it over with Jim and the Board. It will likely get accomplished provided you have the ability to get it done yourself along with whomever you can recruit.

James calls for volunteers for special projects and maintenance work of the common areas. He says the pay is good, he gives about three time as much gratitude as he receives. Presently there is a need for someone to plan, organize, and otherwise work with a class of mentally challenged children from a nearby neighborhood school.

The garden club owes a lot to Jim Moore. Lets us all say "thank you Jim" and give him our full corporation and be an enthusiastic community garden club.
