About El Paso Texas USA

El Paso County and the City of El Paso is  in far West Texas, along the Rio Grande River. It adjoins both the state of New Mexico and the Country of Mexico. We are also in the Northern  part of the Chihuahuan Desert at the  southern tip of the Rocky Mountains making the "Pass to the North" from which the name "El Paso" is derived.

We are located in Mountain Time Zone, The USDA Planting Zone #8, and the Western Garden Book's  Planting Zone #10. The average date of the first killing freeze in the fall is November 12th and the last killing freeze in the spring is March 14th.

High winds are normal in the spring around Easter. This is sustained winds of about 70 miles per hour with gust some 10 to 15 mile higher. Any winds higher than 15 miles per hour is said to be detrimental to horticulture plants so we grow gardens under very harsh conditions.

The normal rainfall amounts to 7.7 inches. The elevation at the El Paso Air Port is approximately 4000 feet and ranges down to about 3750 feet in the Rio Grand River valley.
